Marlise! is a new musical comedy with book & lyrics by Jesse Ayala and music & lyrics by Justino Tesoro. Here's how Marlise made her way from the page to the stage.

2024 – 2025 · CONCEIVED AT BERKLEE

Marlise! was conceived in Berklee’s Graduate Writing and Production for Musical Theatre program, with advisor Adam Gwon.

2024 – 2026 · BMI WORKSHOP

Book and lyric development in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop.

JUNE 2025 · INDUSTRY SHOWCASE

A 15-minute showcase presented to an industry audience at Power Station. Directed by Stephen Nachamie.

OCTOBER 2025 · THE GREEN ROOM 42

Selections performed in the New Works Cabaret at The Green Room 42. Directed by Nick Navari.

FEBRUARY 2026 · NEW MUSICALS PROJECT FINALIST

Marlise! was named a finalist for the New Musicals Project.

FEBRUARY – APRIL 2026 · PRODUCING MASTER CLASS

A Theatre Resources Unlimited (TRU) producing master class with producer Jane Dubin.

AUGUST – SEPTEMBER 2026 · DEVELOPMENTAL PRODUCTION

Marlise! played a developmental production (AEA Showcase Code) at The Players Theatre in New York from August 13 through September 6, 2026. Directed and choreographed by Joe Barros, with music direction and arrangements by Dan Gibson. Starring Harrison Bryan as Arnold Berman and Katie Emerson as Marlise Mattox, with Teresa Attridge, Kevin Smith Kirkwood and the full company. Produced by the Marlise Mattox Fan Club in association with Michael Sgouros.
